La Mama Umbria Screenwriting Workshops

Nestled in the ravishing Umbrian countryside,

this completely refurbished medieval villa provides the venue for an exciting series of professionally taught screenwriting workshops. LaMaMa Umbria has secured the services of internationally recognized professional writers and executives to conduct two-week residential courses on works-in-progress. Our inaugural workshop will be 16-30 June, 1996, with another in September. Course participants will live in the villa, which enjoys the services of a cook, housekeeper and driver on site.

Workshop writers will have use of nine of the villa's bedrooms and five bathrooms. The majority of the bedrooms have exceptional views. A limited amount of single rooms is available. Writers will also have use of the common rooms including the recently renovated Archive Room for private tutorials and the magnificent music gallery which offers spectacular views over the Apennine Hills.

LaMaMa Umbria retains its 14th century rural charm and elegance, and has been decorated and furnished to luxury standard. The villa boasts beamed ceilings throughout, some from the 15th century. Set amid olive groves, the secluded villa is located approximately 15 minutes from the exquisite Festival town of Spoleto, and is accessible via Rome's international airport.

The course fee includes airfares, on-site chauffeured minibus, meals, accommodation, and tuition fees.

Supplements are charged for single rooms, or double rooms used as singles. Since airfares are included, fees are dependent upon points of embarkation.

Charter flights will be arranged wherever possible, but a rough guide would be approximately L1200 for European participants, and L1500 for those based in North America. Gratuities are discretionary. Workshops will be conducted in English, but are open to all.

LaMaMa Umbria Screenwriting Workshops
is a non-profit venture under the aegis of Ellen Stewart's award winning LaMaMa Theater in New York.

NB: *Airfares included in the workshop fee cover New York City or Newark departures for US residents and London departures for UK residents.

** Checks [cheques] drawn on non-UK banks MUST be converted to pounds sterling in the country of origin via banks or financial service agencies. Regretfully, due to restrictive international banking practice, credit card payments are not possible at this time. We hope to hear from you soon.
